Kirsty Gallacher has publicly congratulated her younger sister Laura Gallacher and Russell Brand on the birth of their first child. Reports earlier this week suggested that the couple had welcomed a baby girl together – and now Kirsty has confirmed the happy news.

"Thanks for messages, proud to be an auntie for the first time," mum-of-two Kirsty, 40, tweeted. "Well done to @DaisyPoppets & @rustyrockets. Sadly can't meet her 'til am well."

A source had previously revealed the gender of Russell and Laura's baby to the Daily Star, adding that they had decided to name their little girl Mabel.

Russell, 41, reportedly announced the birth of his child during a performance at the Nottingham Playhouse on Sunday night.

Audience member Daniel Crann told the Mirror: "He didn't confirm if it was a girl or a boy. He was conscious of the clock and made sure he was off stage by just approaching 9pm as he 'needed to get down the M21 as my girlfriend has just had a baby.'"

The British comedian and 27-year-old Laura have had an on-off romance for a number of years, but are thought to have settled down following a romantic break to Rome in 2015.  He popped the question this summer after news broke that she was pregnant with his first child.

In a recent interview with the Evening Standard, Russell shared his excitement at the prospect of becoming a first-time father. "I feel lit up by the idea," he said. "I'm very excited about becoming a dad and I'm preparing myself. I am just getting ready to be with a new little person and see what it is they want."
