Alex Jones has surprised viewers of The One Show by announcing her return to host the show with co-presenter Matt Baker. Alex gave birth to her first child in January and has been enjoying time at home bonding with her son Teddy for the last three months. However, on Friday’s episode of The One Show, Alex revealed she will be returning to the programme sooner than fans expected. Alex said: "I’m coming back to The One Show on Monday. Matt, hopefully you’ll look after me because I’ll be feeling a bit nervous. Excited to see everybody, the whole team.” She continued: “It will be hard leaving little Ted, as every parent, I'm sure, understands. I'll be back on Monday - two days to begin with. We'll see how we go!”

Before the big announcement, Alex had given her fans a clue on her Twitter page. She posted: “Some news coming on @BBCTheOneShow in about 4 mins x”. Her followers were thrilled at the news of their favourite host returning to the sofa. One commented: “Yey! Looking forward to your return @MissAlexJones. Teddy had that one times to perfection.” Another fan wrote: “So pleased you are coming back, it’s not been the same programme without you!” A third said: “Just watched and didn’t realise it was only 2 days a week. Good balance. Sure Teddy will be fine. Good luck.”
While Alex has been off on maternity leave, presenters Angela Scanlon and Michelle Ackerley have been standing in for the much-loved host. Alex, 40, revealed recently in an interview with You Magazine, that she was worried about taking time off from her job and feared being replaced. She said: "I'd be lying to say I didn’t feel any paranoid when I first left the show but then you get over it because you realise there is nothing you can do about it."
Alex and her husband Charlie Thomson welcomed their baby Teddy – full name Edward Alan Burrell Thomson - in January. He was born at the Hammersmith and Fulham hospital weighing 7lbs 11oz. On her new arrival, she said: "It was all very straightforward. Charlie was with me and mum and dad were in the waiting room… We're in this bubble the three of us. It's just the best time." Shortly after the birth, Alex called The One Show and said on air: "We're a bit behind on the whole name thing because we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl. We thought, 'When we see him we'll know what he looks like', but actually it's really hard."
