When the Princess of Wales stepped out in a sensible pair of two tone flats to attend the Royal Charity Polo Cup back in July 2022, the shoes sold out online almost instantly.
The style icon is renowned for sporting designs which subsequently fly off the shelves and it was no different for her ‘Alicia’ shoes which were made by British designer Camilla Elphick. They were first designed at the eponymous designer's London studio, “We had the desire to create the ultimate leg-lengthening flat. It was also all about the buckle, bejewelled in pearls,” explains Camilla. The buckle has become something of a signature for the label and also appears on the brand’s belts.

Luckily for us the exact shoes Princess Kate wore have been restocked, and now come in updated colours, “This year we have made sure that the selection of our most popular Alicia colourways will be more readily available and part of our new core collection,” Camilla explains, “They have previously been made to order but the demand is now so high we need to have stock. We will also be introducing a new colourway for Alicia almost every month - there is a new pink glitter version which is so much fun. I always thought of myself as more of a heels kind of girl but once you have a pair of Alicia, you’ll want to start your collection.” They now also come in a ballet flat version, for those of you not keen on sling backs.
“We currently sell 74% of flat shoe styles online and I believe this is because we have styles customers really want to wear and also perhaps we have got used to being more comfortable - working from home, commuting less and wanting to wear something easy to slip on and wear all day,” says Camilla, “Comfort has been a key in the design and also the height of the heel. We really wanted to make them so beautiful that you can’t wait to wear them.”
