Queen Letizia of Spain attended a meeting at FEDER's headquarters on January 17 in Madrid, Spain, and demonstrated that when it comes to winter style you can’t go wrong with a classic coat.

The Spanish monarch visited the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases in a double-faced wool straight camel hued coat, paired with a matching ribbed knit (tonal dressing to aplomb) and grey Glen Plaid trousers. Alongside her was a sensible black leather  ‘Victoria’ Insignia bag from Carolina Herrera.

In fact almost every one of the separates the royal wore hailed from Carolina Herrera including the coat and the trousers. The Venezuelan fashion designer is renowned for her personal style, and for having dressed various ‘First Ladies’, including Jacqueline Onassis, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, and Melania Trump. She is also a favourite of the royals, having often dressed The Duchess of Sussex, who recently wore a pair of Carolina Herrera earrings paired with a white Louis Vuitton  during her “revenge dress” moment.

Now designer Wes Gordon has taken over the reins, becoming the creative director of Carolina Herrera back in 2018. He has been widely praised for his direction at Carolina Herrera, adhering to the codes and signature vibrancy of the brand but adding a youthful playfulness to the house’s garbs.

The tonal outfit was a masterclass in effortless elegance

Letizia for her part has had plenty of occasions this week to impress royal watchers with her classic style. On Wednesday she attended a far more sombre event, joining her husband King Felipe VI of Spain at the funeral of the late King Constantine II.

For the occasion Letizia honoured the royal mourning dress code for the event which was held at the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens. In keeping with tradition she wore Queen Ena’s pearl brooch and a black dress made by the Spanish palace dressmaker. The frock featured demure tailoring details, including a lapel collar and a belted velvet cinched waist and cuffs. The Spanish royal also opted for sensible black tights in a sheer denier, with patent heeled pumps.
