Could Queen Letizia of Spain be a secret Wednesday fan?

On Wednesday January 18, the Spanish monarch visited the FITUR Tourism Fair at the Ifema conference centre in Madrid wearing an outfit which was plucked directly from the wardrobe of Jenna Ortega’s iconic character in the hit Netflix series.

The royal donned the  ‘Lena’ V-Neck Sweater from Sandro Paris which originally retailed at a cool £295 but is now on sale for  £129.50. The jumper features an exaggerated poplin-collar and is made of wool and alpaca-blend.

Letizia opted to pair the glam-goth jumper with Hugo Boss’ Tapia regular-fit crepe trousers with paper-bag waist in black. For accessories she kept things tonal in Unisa’s Luke boots. As for jewellery she elevated her affordable look with a pair of Double Daga earrings that go for €2,655 from spanish jewellery brand Gold & Roses.

Queen Letizia isn’t the only one who has succumbed to being sartorially inspired by Wednesday. The original goth and black-on-black fashion icon is expected to be a major source of style inspiration this season. The hashtag #WednesdayAddamsCosplay already has over 139 million views (and counting) on TikTok. Jenna Ortega for her part also tends to let life imitate art, donning outfits with a distinctly gothic yet glamorous edge.

"I'm loving the dark, gothic energy going on right now, especially with the Versace show, which was amazing with the dark bridal looks," model Munroe Bergdorf told Hello! Fashion's Tania Leslau at the Fashion Awards last month, "Also, with Wednesday and more gothic themes coming out, I want to embrace more of that side of my personality."

Thanks to celebrities such as Dove Cameron, Kourney Kardashian and Olivia Rodrigo the once dormant goth trend is back and better than ever, this time with a delicate, contemporary twist. The award-winning ‘Drivers License’ singer is devoted to the new aesthetic and is often spotted in floral mini dresses with platform leather boots. It also takes just one look at Kourtney Kardashian’s avant garde Italian wedding to Travis Barker to see that the whole event was an ode to gothic style. Likewise Tish Weinstock’s Halloween wedding and its 'Gothic Black Tie' dress code (attended by Sabine Getty, Kate Moss and Adwoa Aboah) was proof that the look is the chicest trend in fashion circles right now.
