OAkin to the timeless trench, nature-defying jeans and the infinitely versatile white T-shirt, no wardrobe is complete without a pair of leather trousers. Make no mistake, we adore a bonkers, fleeting trend just as much as the next style obsessive, but sometimes only a stone-cold classic will fit the bill.

Think of leather trousers as part of your sartorial bread and butter – an uber-flattering pair will be worth its weight in gold when you have limited time to spare.

When it comes to scouting out the perfect pair, fit is king. The current crop of leather trouser silhouettes is pleasingly extensive – from barrel and balloon fits to super skinny, low-rise and flared styles, there is a pair out there for everyone. It's merely a matter of finding 'the one'.

Leather injects outfits with a certain sultry cool that feels exclusive to the glossy, buttery smooth texture. And vegans needn't miss out on the action – there are plenty of stylish faux versions on the market right now. Check out styles by the likes of Stand Studio, Me + Em and Nanushka for the most stylish non-leather versions.

For capsule wardrobe devotees in particular, leather trousers will come in super handy this season. Neutral shades are great for mixing and matching purposes, think sleek blacks, luxe camels and creamy off-whites. But if a statement is on the cards, embrace animal finishes like snakeskin and alligator in eye-catching colourways.

Consider chocolate brown kick flares teamed with a dash of vibrancy in the form of a tomato red cut-out top or stage a monochrome moment and style your pair with a matching shirt.

Alternatively, leather trousers can be elevated for the evening. Opt for a silky lace cami and sock boots, or swap out your go-to trainers for sky-high platforms and wear with leather flares for the ultimate vintage It-girl moment.
