I’m not a beige person. In fact, I stay clear of it best I can. Closely associated with pristine influencer wardrobes that favour a ‘quiet luxury’ palette, the hue has come to represent all-things minimalist, or, in my arguably rather harsh estimation, playing it safe.
Yet, I’m always up for being proved wrong when it comes to style, and this season, the runways did just that. Burberry reimagined its signature beige trench with quirky floral beading in acidic tones, while Chloé gave the colourway an unapologetic boho upgrade with ruffles galore.
Akris coloured beige staples with painterly ribbon appliqués that darted down the catwalk (a personal favourite), Calvin Klein resurrected 90s-inspired ‘office-siren’ silhouettes with thin, sheer fabrics while Celine and Balenciaga debuted voluminous balloon pants cut from beige earth tones.
Safe to say, I’m now a beige convert. Discover how to style and shop the colour without ever looking boring below.
How to style beige:
Iconic Trench
Few silhouettes are as synonymous with beige as Burberry’s iconic trench coat - a timeless classic that never misses in our book.
Timeless Tailoring
A palatable halfway house between traditional tailoring and cool-girl style, waistcoats are the perfect way to spice up your in-office attire.
Cool-Girl Corsetry
A lick of lace goes a long way and is the ideal way to incorporate beige hues into your partywear collection this autumn.
Boho-Chic
Being the gloriously warm earth tone it is, beige is a go-to colourway for those wanting to inject their wardrobes with some Chloé-approved boho-chic style.
Pop of Texture
Beige accessories have been championed by a plethora of luxury brands, making them an easy, high-octane way of incorporating the classic colour into your seasonal collective.
Major Mini
While the hue is closely associated with everyday knits and outerwear, it makes for a stunning after-dark choice. Particularly when clad in twinkling sequins like the Miu Miu mini pictured above.
Print Perfection
Take it from Burberry and its iconic Nova check, beige prints can really pack a punch. We'd suggest a plaid scarf or monogrammed bag.
Shop our favourite beige pieces:
Jackie 1961 Bag
Gucci
A piece that really speaks for itself, Gucci's iconic 1961 Jackie is a luxury investment that will stand the test of time with its iconic canvas silhouette and playful monogram finish.
Sky Shirt
Gimaguas
Gimaguas gives the classic beige shirt a subversive twist with silver stud detailing. Crafted from crisp cotton poplin, this tailored button-down brings understated edge to everyday dressing.
A perfect marriage of slouch and sophistication, Bermuda shorts are the ultimate compromise - a highly versatile, wearable staple for stylish skirt avoidants.
Scarlett Tapestry Lace Up Corset
Manière De Voir
Tapestry textiles were a key aesthetic to emerge from the catwalk this September, and well, we're sold. We love this Victoriana corset topped with vintage-inspired florals.
Ravello Coat
The Frankie Shop
We want to bury ourselves in this befurred number by The Frankie Shop. We'd style ours with a crisp white tee, kitten heels boots and blue jeans to let it take centre stage.
Strappy Dress
Zara
Slip into style with a helping hand from a high street hero. Zara's affordable dress can be dressed up with chunky jewels and heels for a romantic date night look.
Dorsten Suede Pirate Boots
Schuh
Pirate boots are having their moment in the spotlight - and our choice would be these buckled beauties in a luxe suede finish.
