Michael B. Jordan is on top of the world right now after winning the coveted Best Actor Oscar for his dual role in Sinners. While he was busy starring in blockbusters like the Creed franchise and Marvel's Black Panther on his path to Hollywood stardom, the actor had an unconventional living situation for a long time despite having the funds to buy his own home.

In a recent interview, Michael shared the wholesome reason he chose to continue living with his parents even well after he could afford to move out. The star bought a $1.7 million home for his mother, Donna Jordan, and his father, Michael A. Jordan in Sherman Oaks, California in 2015, which he lived in for several years in his '30s. When asked why he chose to continue living with his parents, the star simply explained: "I love my parents".

Michael told CBS News' Sunday Morning in January that the living situation "made for a lot of funny moments" and "a lot of great stories". The actor let out a laugh when asked to elaborate on the kind of stories he was referring to. "We ain't got enough time," he joked. One big difference he revealed is that while he's a self-proclaimed "night owl", his parents "go to sleep early".

He bought his parents a house

Michael has spoken previously about having a "roommate" dynamic with his parents while still living in the Los Angeles home he bought them in 2015. "I love my parents, but we have a roommate relationship right now, which is interesting,” he said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018.

“You get home-cooked meals, but then you also have those random trips to the kitchen in the middle of the night, and just the random run-ins that just might be a little uncomfortable from time to time," he added.

The actor told The Times in another interview that it had been a "dream" to buy the home for his parents. "Look, it’s every kid’s dream, to buy their mom and dad a house," he said. He later revealed to Vanity Fair in 2018 that he would be moving out to a Los Angeles penthouse - but would only be just three blocks away from his parents.

The Creed actor is clearly close with his family and even brought his mother as his date to the 98th Academy Awards on 15 March. The star walked the red carpet ahead of the ceremony with his mother Donna, and gave her a sweet hug when he won the best actor award.

"Mama, what’s up? You know how I feel about my mother," Michael gave Donna a shout-out at the beginning of his acceptance speech.

“Pops, where you at?  My dad flew in from Ghana to be here. My brother and sister are here too," he added. Michael has an older sister, Jamila, and a younger brother, Khalid.
