Jonathan Andic, the son of Mango co-founder Isak Andic, has been arrested on suspicion of his father's alleged murder, after the businessman fell to his death during a hike. The arrest comes 17 months after Isak's death on 14 December 2024.
Jonathan was arrested on Tuesday and is due in court later. A spokesperson for the Catalan regional police, known as the Mossos d'Esquadra, said: "I can confirm the detention of Jonathan Andic on suspicion of the homicide of his father, Isak Andic."
Jonathan, who has always maintained his innocence, is expected to appear in a courthouse in Martorell, a city close to Barcelona.
In a statement, the family said: "Jonathan Andic is appearing before the court in connection with the accident which occurred on December 14, 2024. At this moment we cannot add more because a secrecy order has been placed over the case. Our collaboration has and will be total."
At the time of his death, Isak's net worth was estimated at $4.5 billion, making him one of the wealthiest men in Spain.
What happened?
Isak, 71, slipped and fell 150 metres during an early morning hiking expedition with his son and wife in Montserrat, Catalonia in December 2024. It was previously reported that Isak was behind his son, who heard falling stones and turned to see his father slip as the ground shifted.
It was not the first time the family had undertaken this route, with it being a popular excursion tour for visitors. Emergency services were immediately alerted, and hours passed before rescue workers from the mountain unit and air resources were able to recover the Spanish businessman's body.
An initial investigation into Isak's death ruled it as accidental; however, the case was reopened last year over "contradictory statements" and "grey areas" in Jonathan's account of his father's death.
Among these was the location of Jonathan's car at the time of his father's death.
Isak was an Istanbul-born entrepreneur who had moved to Spain as a teenager and began selling hand-embroidered T-shirts, before he founded his fast fashion empire in 1972 alongside his brother Nahman.
He opened his first store on Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona before venturing into Madrid, and eventually consolidated his businesses under one outlet, which he called Mango.
