Warren, who left school at 15 to become a newspaper copy boy, has been a familiar face on British TV since the 1970s. Early roles in films A Clockwork Orange and Charlton Heston's Antony And Cleopatra eventually led him to the small screen, where he became a household name playing politically incorrect Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel in Dalziel And Pascoe, and in the initial series of Down To Earth opposite Pauline Quirke.
