The British monarch has set up shop in two converted Victorian potting sheds on the Windsor Home Park. Queen Elizabeth opened the new store, which will sell meat, dairy produce and plants grown in the royal nurseries, as well as pheasants taken on the Windsor, Balmoral and Sandringham estates, on Wednesday.

“The intention is to provide high-quality, reliable, known-source food and to support farming and employment on the royal estates and in other areas,” says the project’s general manager Craig Brittain, adding: “The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have a strong commitment to farming and rural life.”

Cups of tea and soft drinks, homemade sandwiches and cakes will also be available at a next-door coffee shop. In embarking upon the venture, which will create a total of 21 jobs, the Queen is following in the footsteps of her eldest son Charles who sells organic vegetables produced on the Home Farm of his Gloucester estate of Highgrove.
