Crown Princess Mette-Marit recently recovered from a bout of pneumonia – and now she’s been sidelined with a broken ankle after taking a fall while on a skiing holiday. And as the princess rests up, her husband Prince Haakon has looked after Marius, Mette-Marit’s four-year-old son from a previous relationship, on the snow-covered slopes of Sikkilsdalestra.
Mette-Marit, her ankle in a cast, wasn’t able to participate in the royal family’s traditional Easter ski run at Prinsehytta, a holiday cabin in the mountains west of Vinstra. The 28-year-old princess instead cheered on her husband and in-laws – King Harald, Queen Sonja, Princess Martha Louise and her fiancée Ari Behn – from the sidelines. The trip marked the first time that Haakon and Martha Louise brought their partners to the annual event.
Though Marius spent Easter with his father, he rejoined the royal family this week to continue the sporting holiday. The little tot needed help from stepdad Haakon to put on his skis, but seemed to be gaining skills on the slopes as the crown prince followed behind.
When the royal family returns to Oslo, Mette-Marit will still be on a break from official duties. Her engagements through April have been suspended, including a planned visit to the prison island of Bastoy off Horten, and the 100th anniverary of Bastoy Church, which had been scheduled for next week.
