Thanks to a local tourist attraction, royal watchers in Madrid can get an up close and personal look at Crown Prince Felipe and his princess-to-be, Letizia Ortiz – or the next best thing, at least.

The city's wax museum has unveiled its own version of the couple, who are set to wed this May. Felipe and Letizia's waxy alter egos, on display at the Museo De Cera in the Spanish capital, are dressed in exact copies of the outfits they chose for their engagement announcement last November.

While 6ft 4in Prince Felipe sports a dark blue suit and patterned tie, Letizia is wearing a reproduction of what became her trademark outfit, a tailored white Armani trouser suit.

Wax sculptors went to work on the figures as soon as the royal palace announced the official engagement between the 36-year-old royal and the former TV newsreader late last year. Now completed, the future Princess of Asturias' likeness will have a special place of honour alongside the rest of the royal family in the three-decade old museum.
