The details of Prince Charles' divorce from Princess Diana have been revealed by his former financial adviser. According to Geoffrey Bignall, who handled the prince's finances from 1985 to 1996, the future king had to give his entire personal fortune to his estranged wife.

"Princess Diana took every penny he had," explained the banker. "I was told to liquidate everything so he could give her the cash." While the exact figures have never been revealed, Diana is said to have received a £17-million lump sum along with an allowance for her private office.

Charles reportedly had to borrow from the Queen in order to foot the bill. But although Diana's demands were described as "excessive" by some, her husband was eager to draw a line under the matter.

Prince Charles was in Bosnia to attend the reopening of the Stari Most bridge when the reports surfaced. The graceful stone arc, which joins the Muslim and Christian communities in the city of Mostar, was destroyed in the country's bitter civil war back in 1993.
