Although the guest list for Denmark's royal christening read like a who's who of European royalty, Princess Alexandra's innate elegance and warmth ensured she got her share of the limelight. The former wife of Prince Joachim earned one of the biggest cheers of Saturday afternoon from the waiting crowd as she arrived at the highly anticipated event.

For the occasion she'd chosen a tailored cream coat topped off with an asymmetrical hat. In evidence once again were the radiant smile and unaffected wave that captured the hearts of the Danish public over a decade ago.

Inside she settled the two boys close to their father, who as godfather to Prince Christian, had a prime seat behind Crown Prince Frederik, and Crown Princess Mary, the parents of the future king. For part of the emotional service Felix was allowed to sit on his dad's lap.

Despite her divorce last year and a new romance with photographer Martin Jorgensen, the 41-year-old is still an integral part of the royal fold. She and Joachim have also made concerted efforts to remain united as parents, appearing jointly on occasions such as visits to their children's schools.

Her most recent high-profile outing with the royal clan included a role in welcoming Queen Sonja and King Harald of Norway on an official visit to celebrate 100 years of their country's independence from Sweden.
