Wills' girl Kate isn't too grand for local shops

These days the sight of Kate Middleton mingling in royal circles is a familiar one. Only a few weeks ago Prince William's sweetheart slipped into the royal box alongside Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at the Cheltenham races.

But the pretty girlfriend of the second-in-line to the throne also has her feet firmly on the ground, as proved by these pictures of her popping out to the shops in London.

The slim brunette was caught on camera as she dropped into a Chelsea petrol station. With her head down and a Marks & Spencer bag in her hand, Kate showed she's determined to get on quietly with her own life and not to attract too much attention to herself.

Her unaffected manners, level head and discretion during the two-year romance has earned her credit with her beau's family, and she is said to have met the approval of the head of the clan, the Queen.

That and her elegant sense of style - for her shopping trip she'd donned a summery outfit of trendy boots and a floaty miniskirt - should make Kate a success if she becomes Wills' princess.
