Prince William and Princess Catherine might have had an extra spooky Halloween weekend.
Their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, is said to be haunted - and the future King had the best reaction after being told of their resident spook.
William and Catherine received the Georgian mansion as a wedding present from the late Queen in 2011, and the family use it primarily for weekends, school holidays, and summer breaks.
Speaking on HELLO!'s A Right Royal Podcast, paranormal historian Richard Felix said: "When the Prince of Wales and Princess of Wales moved into Anmer Hall, it's more or less on the Sandringham Estate, there was a ghost there of a Catholic priest that lived there and was hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason, and for some reason, has returned to his home.
"Although he was executed in York, they've actually heard his voice. And they have seen the ghost of what they say is a priest, wandering around Anmer Hall," he continued.
"Before the Waleses moved in, they were warned about the ghost and the comment was, I presume it was from Prince William, he said, 'No old hall would be complete without a ghost, would it?'"
Anmer Hall isn't the only royal home rumored to have a resident ghost; Buckingham Palace, Balmoral Castle, Sandringham House, Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace are all said to be haunted.
Royal ghosts
The late Queen was said to have encountered the paranormal more than once. According to British royals expert Hilary Fordwich, "Both the late Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth II reported apparitions, witnessing paranormal activity there of their late ancestor Queen Elizabeth I."
This spirit was said to walk the library at Windsor Castle, while other ghosts spotted at the historic building include the Mad King George III, muttering "what" over and over, and King Henry VIII moaning and groaning because of his ulcerated leg.
The Queen was also said to have felt the presence of the ghost of Queen Victoria's beloved Scottish servant John Brown, who has been seen in his kilt on the Balmoral Estate.
"Our dear late queen always said that there were ghosts, and she said 'I never go to Allt-na-Giubhsaich – Glassalt, the cottage on the lake in Balmoral – without the corgis because the corgis sense it before I do. Their hackles go up and they start to growl so I never go without them, and I never stay the night there,'" butler Paul Burrell previously recalled.
William and Catherine's Halloween first
The Prince and Princess had a Halloween surprise for royal fans on Saturday when they shared their first-ever Halloween-themed post on social media.
In the throwback image, which was taken by Catherine, a one-year-old Louis looked happier than ever, bending down to pick up a large pumpkin in front of him.
"Happy Halloween! [Pumpkin emoji]. Prince Louis, aged 1, photographed by The Princess of Wales," were the words accompanying the image on the official social media channels for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
William and Catherine take the kids trick-or-treating
In 2022, Jay Rutland, husband of Tamara Ecclestone, who lives close to William and Kate's former London residence, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, shared in January 2023: "Kate knocked on our door in London with their kids on Halloween. 'Trick or Treating'. Very friendly and down-to-earth."
He also shared a photo which showed the trio at the large black gates of the Rutland-Ecclestone abode. Prince Louis, then four, could be seen eagerly grabbing the gates with both fists next to his sister, Charlotte, then seven, Prince George, then 11, stood behind his siblings next to Kate, who was beaming from ear to ear.
Two years later, in 2024, Kate was spotted buying Halloween costumes for her brood at Sainsbury's in Amner, Norfolk. Fellow shopper Kathy Whittaker, who spotted the Princess in the King's Lynn branch back in 2019, told The Mirror at the time: "She was with Charlotte and George looking at Halloween outfits but her bodyguard was kind of watching people with phones and telling them no pictures. I managed to get the photo as she was at the self-service checkout.
"I didn't see what she actually bought. The lady that told me she was there had children with her and she said Kate was asking her children what they were going to be for Halloween. I think she bought some Halloween bits for her kids, but I don't know what."
