Princess Estelle of Sweden enjoyed a family day out horsing around with her mum Crown Princess Victoria and her grandfather King Carl XVI Gustaf. The inquisitive two-year-old was treated to a gentle pony ride at Skansen in Stockholm – the country's oldest open-air museum that features a zoo, aquarium and miniature display of Sweden. Wearing a safety helmet and gripping onto the saddle, Estelle was guided through the leafy grounds by her 68-year-old reigning grandfather, while Victoria placed a protective hand on her firstborn's back.

Royal watchers were amazed to see how much Estelle had grown since her last high-profile appearance, which took place on 8 June at her cousin Princess Leonore's christening.

As King Carl XVI Gustaf fed the baby goat some leaves, Estelle reached out to tentatively pet the creature. The royal darling was particularly humoured when a colourful parrot landed on her mum's head, as the trio visited the bird enclosure.

The visit to Skansen by the three generations seemed especially fitting for Estelle who will one day be queen of Sweden. Founded by teacher and folklorist Artur Hazelius in 1891, the museum encourages visitors to learn about their country's history and see the plants and animals from all over Sweden.

Royal fans can expect to see more of Estelle in the near future. The adorable princess recently undertook her first royal engagement in May, when she was accompanied by her parents to Linkoping castle, in the province of Östergötland.

Estelle waved to the flag-bearing crowds and was later scooped up her charming father Prince Daniel for the last leg of the walk. Earlier that day, the trio had opened the Fairytale Path at Lake Takern.
