The Queen drops off the rich list for the first time

Queen Elizabeth II has failed to make the Sunday Times Rich List for the first time since the record began. Britain's monarch, who has consistently made the list since it was establish 26 years ago, did not feature in the top 300 wealthiest people in the UK.The 89-year-old royal, who topped the very first list in 1989, ranked 302nd.

Despite falling 17 places, however, the Queen's annual income has actually increased by £10million in the last year. For the most part the growth is due to the Sovereign Grant, which sees the Queen receive 15 per cent of the profits from the Crown Estate.In addition, the Queen's investment portfolio is estimated to have grown to £110million, according to the Independent,The newspaper also reports that the list does not take into account the Royal Collection a priceless collection of artworks which includes pieces by Rembrandt, Monet, Landseer and Durer.

The collection contains over 7,000 paintings, 40,000 watercolours and drawings and around 150,000 old master prints. Historical photographs, tapestries, furniture, ceramics and books also make up the collection, which is spread across a number of royal residences including: Windsor Castle, Sandringham, Hampton Court Palace, Buckingham Palace and Holyrood Palace.Coming at first place with a fortune of £13.16 was Warner Music owner Len Blavatnik, a Ukrainain-American businessman who first made his fortune in the oil industry.

Other notable names on the list include Galen and George Weston, who run Selfridges and Primark in the UK, Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich, who came in at number 10 on the list with a fortune of £7.29bn, and Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson.The 64-year-old Londoner, who began his first business venture at the age of 16, has seen his wealth rise from £3.6billion to £4.1billion in the last year, making him 20th richest person in Britain.
