The Princess of Wales may be the picture of royal style now she is a senior member of the British royal family, but not so long ago, the future Queen's summer style could have given our favourite celebrities a run for their money.

Cast your minds back to 2006, Kate and her younger sister Pippa Middleton were in their 'chelsea girl' era, living at a lavish £1.88 million apartment in the British capital's most affluent borough.

While dating her future husband, Prince William, Kate and Pippa would often attend society events together. Stepping out at the the Rundle Cup Day at Tidworth Polo Club, Kate donned the halterneck summer dress of dreams.

As well as its flattering halterneck style, the dress in question featured a brown and white floral design and was complete with a plunging neckline and waist-cinching belt.

As for accessories, Kate opted for a pair of noughties-style tinted sunglasses and a pair of white pointed-toe shoes.

But one thing we couldn't notice was the relatable 'messy bun' Kate had, no doubt sweeping her trademark brunette locks up mid-event to battle the beating sunshine.

Chelsea girls

This wasn't the only outfit one half of the Middleton-sister duo had us gushing over of late. Pippa also showed off her penchant for a summery sundress while on a bike ride around her former stomping ground near her old apartment in another killer throwback snap.

The moment in question saw the now mother-of-three bestride a picturesque bicycle - complete with a wicker basket - wearing a navy blue and lilac dress covered in an elegant floral design.

Beaming for the snaps, Pippa's brunette locks were styled impressively straight, especially given her taxing activity.

Living in SW3

Kate and Pippa lived at their former Chelsea home with their younger brother, James Middleton, who opened up about what life was like living with his 20-something sisters in his book, Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life.

James wrote of Prince William coming to visit the apartment, "By now, William has been dating Catherine for six years, so I know him well, and there is no scramble to clear up when he comes to supper.

"Sometimes I'll be walking back to our flat late in the evening when an officer in a police protection car, parked discreetly up the road, alerts me to the fact that William is visiting, and Ella and I will make an extra lap of the block to delay our return."

James also candidly admitted that the home would get "messy" thanks to his visits! He writes: "I still have a toehold in Edinburgh but spend more time in London now, where Pippa and Catherine are not too thrilled to have their little brother disrupting their orderly, tidy existence, strewing damp clothes over the bathroom floor, leaving unwashed crockery in the sink and letting Ella pad wet-pawed across the living room carpet."

He added: "But they bustle round in their kind, sisterly way, clearing up after their messy little brother with only the mildest of rebukes."
