Royal Blog RECAP: Key figures revealed as King Charles and Prince William release tax details

However, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have mastered the heatwave much better than I!

The York sisters have had some killer summer looks. 

Stepping out at the Boodles Boxing Ball at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in 2011, the royal sister duo battled the beating summer temperatures in dresses to die for. 

They've given us some serious inspiration for this heatwave.

Marius Borg Hoiby, the stepson of Norway's future King, is facing four years in prison after being found guilty of 34 out of 40 charges against him. 

Marius has now filed his appeal with the Court of Appeal early - he had until the end of the month. 

As detailed in HELLO!'s sister publication, HOLA!, the appeal addresses the two rape charges, in addition to the domestic violence charge. 

The appeal is expected to be sent to the Borgarting Court, one of the six appeal courts in the Norwegian judicial system located in Oslo, next year. 

However, he will not appeal his pretrial detention, meaning he will remain behind bars until 13 July.

I can't stop thinking about the end of this heatwave, so I've been looking ahead to next week. And I thought I would give you a summary of what we can expect royal-wise. 

Wimbledon tennis tournament begins on Monday - we can expect to see some great tennis and also some royal attendees!

Meanwhile, King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other members of the royal family will be heading to Scotland for royal week. We can expect to see them at a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Thistle Service at St Giles Cathedral (among other engagements). 

Princess Anne and the Duke of Gloucester will also be going to France to honour the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The King has made history by becoming the first monarch to release their tax payments which revealed he was among the country’s top 100 taxpayers in 2024-25.

Charles has taken the step of publishing his payments to HM Revenue and Customs in a bid to aid clarity and accessibility around royal finances.

Since Charles became King following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 he has paid more than £30 million in tax, while William has made payments of more than £20 million in tax since becoming the Prince of Wales.

The Prince of Wales initially resisted releasing his own tax payments when he became heir to the throne and took on the Duchy of Cornwall, but has released his financial data as a string of royal reports were published.

The records are a fascinating look into the royal purse, and here are some of the key figures...

• The King’s private income from the profits of the Duchy of Lancaster estate? £25.2 million
  
  
• The King paid £12.9 million in tax in 2024-5 and became the first British head of state to disclose their personal tax bill
  
  
• The Prince of Wales’s annual private income from the Duchy of Cornwall estate was £21.6 million,  down from £22.9 million the previous year
  
  
• William’s personal tax bill from 2024-25, published for the first time since he inherited the Duchy of Cornwall, was £7.76 million

• The total taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant in 2025-26 was £132.1 million compared to £86.3 million in 2024-25, thanks to the Crown Estate wind farm deal profits
  
  
• The official net expenditure by the monarchy was £117.2 million, a rise from £85.2 million in 2024/2025
  
  
• The cost of official royal travel?  £5.1 million
  
  
• The most expensive journey was £130,106, and was for William’s official visit to Saudi Arabia on a charter flight, including a scheduled planning flight by staff
  
  
• The wage bill for staff was £33.7. million
  
  
• Rental income from properties let to non-working royals including Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Royal Household staff and other tenants, hit £3.9 million

King Charles  has confirmed that Clarence House will remain his primary residence, and not Buckingham Palace   with the monarch recognising that the palace should be used for "greater public benefit rather than greater private benefit".

Nearly £370million has been spent on upgrading Buckingham Palace in the last decade.

"His Majesty retains huge affection for Buckingham Palace and a deep respect for its role in royal and public life," said a palace spokesperson. "It will be a buzzing hive of royal activity in every other way."

"It will remain a working home but we are seeking to widen public access precisely to maximise the national benefit of a publicly-funded building."

The Palace will remain the monarchy’s headquarters in London, and the royal couple will retain private rooms there for their use during the working day or an overnight stay if hosting a visiting head of state, for example.
