Meeting a member of the British royal family is no doubt an exciting moment for anyone. But for Devil Wears Prada star Vanessa Williams, her moment with King Charles came with a mischievous reaction from His Majesty.
The Ugly Betty star opened up about meeting the King while at the Royal Variety show, during which she took part in a magic trick with Penn and Teller.
"When I did the Royal Variety Show, I did a quick magic trick with Penn and Teller, and I had to open up a padlock, and I had a little trouble getting it open, so he mentioned: 'You had a little trouble getting that lock open, ' but that was the only cheeky thing that was said."
Vanessa as an 'honourary Brit'
While she is quickly cementing her status as an 'honourary Brit' starring on the West End as Miranda Priestly and even considering her permanent move to the UK, Vanessa revealed she has always been a huge fan of the British Royal Family.
The award-winning actress revealed: "I watched Diana's wedding to King Charles - I was in high school at the time - we all got up at four in the morning to watch it live so the fact that I got follow in her footsteps, shake royalty's hands, is a dream come true. I was at Royal Ascot last week, it was just incredible, I saw the King arrive. "
Vanessa added that living the UK is on the cards. "I'd love to continue to work here and live. I'm definitely open to a place here. My house is for sale, I'm in negotiations right now, so it's very up in the air, I'm very nimble! So we'll see.
On where she'd like her home in the British Capital to be, Vanessa explained: "Marylebone is adorable, Mayfair, and Kensington are incredible. I'm so used to being in central London and being close to everything that I haven't ventured very far.
"This is spectacular; Wimbledon is beautiful. Even if you're living outside of central London, the commute isn't too bad. I'm open."
Hollywood stars take the UK
Vanessa said she is "so proud" of her Ugly Betty co-star America Ferrera, who is raising her kids in the UK.
"America is turning into another Brit; she's living here too and raising her kids here with Ryan. I'm so happy for her. She's extremely talented, very engaged, very politically aware, and she's a maverick. So, I'm so excited to see what her future is going to be beyond acting, writing and directing. She has so much potential, and I'm just proud to have known her 20 years ago.
