The Princess of Wales was reportedly told she was "marrying into the wrong family" after her true feelings about horses were revealed.

According to Channel 5's royal correspondent, Simon Vigar, she was warned about her lack of equestrian interest may not go down with her future husband's side of the family.

Simon told GB News the incident occurred during the early years of Prince William and Catherine’s courtship, following their time together as students at the University of St Andrews.

According to Simon: "Early on somebody at a polo match found Catherine all on her own in a marquee somewhere, or hiding around the back, and she said that she wasn't that into horses."

"The person said, 'Boy, are you marrying into the wrong family?' That would have been the time we're talking about after university, early 2000s or mid-noughties."

Simon added that Queen Camilla is the one of the only women to marry into the current British royal family to "get it right" when it comes to their passion for horses.

"I don't think Diana was into horses that much, and I'm pretty sure Meghan isn't," he said.

"So yeah, Camilla's the only one who got that right!"

Why doesn't Kate attend horse events often?

While it may appear as though the future Queen, 44, doesn't attend equestrian-themed events often, there is a deeper reason beyond an aversion to the animals.

Kate actually has an allergy to horses, something which she mentioned back in 2009 to Australian author Kathy Lette, who asked the then Duchess of Cambridge why she didn't play polo during a match.

"I'm allergic to horses," Kate replied. However, Kate was then revealed to be taking impressive measures in an attempt to overcome her allergy.

In 2011, Clarisa Ru, wife of Santa Barbara Polo Club president Wesley Ru, told PEOPLE that Kate was attempting to overcome her allergy through exposure – also known as immunotherapy.

"I got a chance to have a conversation with Kate," she said. "I asked if she was into polo before she met William. She said no. But she's been riding horses for a while, and she hopes to play polo one day. She said, 'I'm actually allergic to them, but the more time one spends with them, the less allergic you become'."
