Meghan Markle made a rare comment about her journey to motherhood during a date night with her husband Prince Harry in Canada last week.

While attending David Foster's anniversary gala last Friday, Meghan imparted a piece of advice to American singer Pia Toscano, who is pregnant with her first child and performed at the star-studded event.

Pia recalled approaching the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes table during the evening and sharing a touching encounter with Meghan. Speaking to Page Six, the singer said the royal couple hugged her and offered their congratulations.

"This is the most beautiful time of your life," Meghan allegedly told her, also touching the American Idol alum's pregnant belly.

Pia, who is already a stepmother to her husband Carmen Educate's five children from a previous relationship, announced last month that she is expecting a baby girl with Carmen in December. The star, 37, showed off her blossoming baby bump in a figure-hugging dress on the night.

What has Meghan said about being pregnant?

Meghan announced she was pregnant with her first child, son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, while she was touring Australia with Harry in October 2018. The couple became first time parents when Archie was born on 6 May, 2019.

After suffering a heartbreaking miscarriage in July 2020, which Meghan previously described as "an almost unbearable grief", the couple announced in February 2021 that they were expecting their second child. They then welcomed their daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on 4 June.

During an episode of her Archetypes podcast in 2022, Meghan told guest Serena William that when she was pregnant she "just waddled around."

"I was just tired. So tired. Oh my God," the Duchess admitted.

The royal previously opened up about her commitment to wearing heels throughout her high-public pregnancies. During an episode of the Confessions of a Female Founder podcast, Meghan recalled a friend's reaction to a photo of her in 2019 when she was still a working royal – pregnant and in heels.

"I always wear my five-inch, pointy-toed stilettos," the Duchess, who said she gained 65 lbs during both pregnancies, explained. Her friend apparently told her: "'You have the most enormous bump and your tiny little ankles are bracing themselves in these high heels,' but all my weight was in the front. So you’re just going, how on Earth am I not just tipping, you know, face planting? I was clinging very closely to my husband, like, 'Please don’t let me fall.'"

Meghan's 'most important' title

The royal stated in her post-royal exit interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 that "the most important title I'll ever have is mum".

When asked what her superpower is recently, Meghan answered "being a mom". "I feel like we have superpowers because we juggle it all and enjoy it all with grace and grit at the same time," she said during a recent InStyle Q&A.

The royal also spoke of how her five-year-old daughter makes her feel brave. "Every day, when I feel a little bit like, 'Oh gosh, can I do this?' I go: 'Lili would do it.'"
