Every so often, the royals prove they are just like the rest of us when it comes to craving a sweet treat and Princess Kate's dessert of choice is a total classic.
While the Royal Family's day-to-day diet is rarely made public, we often catch glimpses of the food they love when they are out and about chatting to fans. Read on below to discover what Prince William revealed about his wife's sweet tooth…
Classic choice
During a trip to the Duchy College in Cornwall in October 2024, Prince William let slip what dessert his wife, the Princess of Wales really enjoys.
After visiting the college's criminology department, William toured the establishment's student and staff hub, Sam's Café, where he was presented with one of his favourite cakes, the refrigerated breakfast cake, which formed one of the layers of William's wedding cake. The dessert was also a favourite of the late Queen's and it consists of chocolate, butter, sugar, cream and biscuits.
The cake was presented to William by chef Darren Watson, who had been undertaking a lot of research in order to uncover the desserts loved by the royals. When Darren told William that he had discovered that Kate's favourite pudding was a sticky toffee pudding, William confirmed this, saying: "Very good."
For those unaware of what this British classic dessert is, let me explain. The moist sponge cake is naturally sweetened with dates and covered in a rich toffee sauce, usually served alongside vanilla ice cream or warm custard. A crowd-pleasing classic, this traditional choice rarely divides opinion so Princess Kate certainly picked a winner!
As for Prince William, his dessert options seem a bit more varied and have to include one thing.
Speaking of his love of anything sweet to Darren after being presented with the biscuit cake, the heir to the throne said: "Thank you very much, that's very sweet of you, any kind of sweet thing I will take, I'm a sucker for anything chocolate and anything sweet."
There is, however, another dessert Prince William is known to love, one that is slightly more unusual and rarely found on restaurant menus. Darren McGrady, a former royal chef at Buckingham Palace, revealed in a 2021 YouTube video that he used to make banana flan "all the time" for a young William.
While this caramel custard dish is a niche choice, William was apparently banana-obsessed, frequently enjoying banana ice cream, banana fritters, and banana custard. Safe to say, he was certainly hitting his potassium goals!
