With the bombshell news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving to the UK with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, it may have you wondering about how long it will be for the Duke to reunite with his brother, Prince William.
Harry and William have not been on proper talking terms since the Duke and Duchess left the UK. There were a couple of exceptions between 2020 and 2023, such as the funeral of their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, which saw them put their differences aside.
However, following the publication of Spare, Harry's tell-all memoir about his family, in January 2023 the pair have been almost entirely estranged. One moment in the book recounted a physical confrontation between the brothers, during which Harry claims William broke his necklace and threw him into a dog bowl at Nottingham Cottage that cut his back.
HELLO!'s Royal Editor, Emily Nash, has shed light on whether she believes royal fans can see amends between the royal siblings being made during this week's emergency episode of A Right Royal Podcast.
During the conversation, Emily explained it's "one step at a time" when it comes to reconciliation, as a lot has happened. It's more likely that Prince William and his wife, the Princess of Wales, will want to focus on their family as they are navigating the change.
"I think this is going to be very much one step at a time, and from people I've been speaking to who know them, I think they're very much working on the basis of let's get the children settled, let's get started on what we want to do, and then the rest is something to consider down the line," Emily said.
"But, crucial to them is the relationship with the King. You can't go any higher than him. And if you have him on side and you are spending time with him, then that does half of the work for you."
There is 'a risk that other members of the family' will 'continue to avoid them'
Emily also explained the possibility that other members of the family may "continue to avoid" the couple upon their US return.
Members of the royal family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne, Zara and Mike Tindall, Prince Edward and James, Earl of Wessex, were called to Balmoral for a "Sussex Summit" on Friday, following the bombshell news.
Emily said: "There is a risk, I think, that other members of the family continuing to avoid them, it might make them look petty or unforgiving. Now, there's a lot that would need to be forgiven. Let's be honest about this. And you can absolutely understand why William and Kate might never want to go there.
"You know, their decision to leave affected that whole generation of the royal family. And it's left a lot of responsibility on not just William's shoulders, but on those of his children. And then you've got all the things that they said, about how they were too formal and they didn't like being hugged. William pushed Harry into a dog bowl, broke his necklace. It's endless.
"So how can you possibly sit in a room and make small talk with somebody who has betrayed you on an international scale?" Emily said.
Adding: "So you can absolutely see from their point of view, they want to focus on their own families. They want to focus on their work and on their future. I think it's going to be a long time waiting to see that reunion happen."
One person who will be pleased with the Sussexes' return is Princess Eugenie, who has stayed in close contact with the family. Eugenie is currently in Portugal, following the birth of her third child.
