One of the highlights in King Charles' calendar is the annual Braemar Gathering, which is traditionally held on the first Saturday in September.
The monarch was joined by his wife, Queen Camilla as he arrived at the event, which is held in the Aberdeenshire village of Braemar. As he arrived, the King was seen using a walking stick, which HELLO! has previously been reassured is his choice of accessory rather than a walking aid.
As is usual when Charles is in Scotland, the monarch wore a tartan kilt, and he also added a pair of knee-high red socks to his ensemble. Meanwhile, Camilla looked radiant in a green overcoat and tartan kilt, completing the look with a green beret.
As she arrived, Camilla was given a sprig of white heather, a traditional emblem of good luck.

The monarch was also on hand to hand out trophies at the Gathering, while Camilla was seen talking with a young girl who had taken part in the opening dance routine, with the royal bending down in order to speak to her.

Other games attended by King Charles
While the Braemar Games often signify the end of the monarch's summer break, the Mey Highland Games often signify the beginning of them, and Charles was present when the event was held at the start of August.
The royal, wearing his traditional kilt, was full of smiles as he watched several Highland sports – including tug of war between a group of firefighters, the stone put, and the caber toss – and shook hands with competitors.
The first Mey Games was held in the nearby village of Mey in 1970 to celebrate the late Queen Mother’s 70th birthday. As the guest of honour, she declared the event a success and encouraged its organizers to make it an annual occurrence.
