Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first met in 2016, and while it's clear to see that they came from two different worlds, one British royalty and one acting royalty, there was also another topic that had them on totally different pages.

In a column for The Sun's Fabulous magazine, content creator Lorna Andrews (aka Lorna Luxe) has admitted Prince Harry had "no clue" about influencers ahead of meeting social media-savvy Meghan.

In 2014, Lorna met Prince Harry after she watched him play polo in Palm Beach. She wrote: "I found him to be thoroughly charming. This was pre-Meghan, and he was a single chap, so it was no surprise when he made a beeline for our table of 20-somethings and charmed the pants off the lot of us.

Harry knew nothing about Influencer culture

"But what I especially liked about chatting with Harry was just how inquisitive and curious he was. He confessed he had no clue how content creation and influencers worked, and there was an honesty to him. It's fair to say, I liked the guy - a charismatic and clever bloke who I'm grateful I got to meet."

His wife, meanwhile, once was the ultimate millennial influencer. Alongside her blog, The Tig, she had her own personal Instagram feed, filled with rainbow bookshelves, shoe selfies and dog photos. After news blew up about her relationship with Prince Harry, Meghan's Instagram account was deactivated.

Meghan's Instagram comeback

Then, in January 2025, she made a spectacular Instagram comeback with the handle @megan and a beachside message, and has been delighting us with personal content ever since. While she's clearly a social media fan, the Duchess recognises the downside of it, highlighting the importance of online safety, particularly for children. She also chooses to keep her two children's identities secret, either by taking photographs from behind or adding emojis over the top. She now also has her own brand's Instagram, As Ever, where she shares inspirational lifestyle imagery.

Prince Harry did have a secret Instagram, however, under the code name @SpikeyMau5, which was believed to be a clever combination of "Spike" (a nickname assigned by his Scotland Yard protection officers) and "Deadmau5" (one of his favourite DJs).

Interestingly, the social media platform played an integral role in their blossoming romance as Meghan was given Harry's secret Instagram and then slid into his DMs to strike up a conversation. The pair shared messages back and forth before arranging their famous first date at Soho House in London.
