Princess Anne recently joked with Sir Kevin Sinfield that she could accompany his running team on a horse as she joined hundreds of supporters on the latest stage of his final endurance event to raise money for motor neurone disease charities.
Sir Kevin spent the past week completing an ultra marathon every day for seven days in his 7 in 7: The Grand Finale venture.
When Sir Kevin invited her to join the challenge, she barely drew breath before responding with a swift but polite: "No thank you! I will stick to horses."
It seems running is one sporting pursuit the Princess Royal is happy to leave to other members of the family - including the Princess of Wales.
Kate, 44, is known for her love of fitness and has been a keen runner over the years. During an appearance on the House of Rugby podcast, Mike Tindall previously revealed that Kate would make his "dream team" because she could "run all day", describing her as an "engine".
Back in 2021, the former England rugby captain was asked to create his dream team. Mike revealed he would have the late Queen as captain and would also sign up his cousins, Princes William and Harry, and William's sporty wife Kate.
"I've got the Duchess of Cambridge on one wing because she loves running, she can run all day. Engine!"
When asked which of the couple is the faster runner, Mike said that William, nicknamed Willy, is even faster than him. "Willy's quick. I've raced him, he's quick, he has really fast leg speed," said Mike.
Despite being a strong runner, Kate previously admitted she could never do a marathon – for one very good reason. In 2020, the Princess was speaking to journalist Bryony Gordon, who asked her if she would be running the London Marathon.
Kate replied: "Oh no, security and all that." Bryony, author of Eat, Drink, Run, then teased: "If I can do the marathon, you can." Kate's younger sister Pippa Middleton, meanwhile, is a keen runner and has completed various marathons and races.
