Meghan Markle is heading to Australia for an exciting new role on the upcoming season of Junior MasterChef, but the Sussexes are not expected to be moving Down Under permanently, HELLO! can reveal.

Last week, it was announced that the Duchess of Sussex will return to Melbourne next year to judge Australia's younger iteration of the MasterChef franchise following a guest appearance on MasterChef Australia in July.

HELLO! understands that the move is a temporary one, with filming likely to commence next Spring and only taking the royal a week or two to complete.

It's understood that Meghan's two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, could join her for a trip away from the UK, where they recently relocated in August.

Meghan's new MasterChef role

Meghan Markle is returning to Australian TV screens as a "special guest" on the 2027 series of Junior MasterChef. Australia's Channel 10 confirmed Meghan will join MasterChef Australia's season one runner-up, Poh Ling Yeow, to "help guide the next generation of young culinary talent" on the series, which went off the air in 2020 after three seasons.

The royal gushed that she "can't wait" for the gig in a statement confirming the news. "I had an incredible time with the whole team at MasterChef this past April, so when they approached me to come back and work with this young group of talent, it was an easy yes," Meghan said.

"I love cooking with my own kids, so seeing what these young stars create in the kitchen is going to be a lot of fun. I can't wait to see what they cook up."

Returning to the MasterChef kitchen

Meghan delighted fans earlier this year when she made a guest appearance in the MasterChef Australia kitchen, which she filmed during her trip Down Under with Prince Harry in April.

While joining the judging panel for an episode, Meghan received a surprise call from her husband, who was meeting with veterans in Australia's capital, Canberra, and could not be there in person.

"Hi, my love!" Meghan answered the FaceTime call with a beaming smile, to which Harry aptly replied, "G'day".

Following the news that Meghan will be back on MasterChef in the new year, her fellow judge Poh Ling Yeow praised her for having a "will of steel" amid criticism.

"Eat that, people," she joked.

"I just have even more admiration for her," she added.
