Meghan Markle has been keeping a low profile since a series of allegations were made against her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

However, next week, she is due to return to the public eye, as she and her husband, Prince Harry, head to Brussels, Belgium. During their visit, the royal couple are expected to give a keynote address at the opening of the Lost Screen Memorial, which will be outside the European Parliament.

The Lost Screen Memorial commemorates children who have lost their lives due to the adverse effects of social media. Harry and Meghan previously opened an installation in New York City in 2025.

At the time, the Duchess of Sussex was moved to tears, and she was seen embracing families who had lost a child. Meghan, who was dressed in a black trouser suit as a mark of respect, asked each parent to point out where their child's image was in the memorial, observing a moment of silence for them.

In May, she travelled to Geneva, Switzerland, for another inauguration of the memorial ahead of the opening of the 79th World Health Assembly.

In a speech, Meghan, who has two young children of her own, said: "Behind me stands The Lost Screen Memorial. Not statistics. Not avatars. Not data points. Children. Each name belonged to a child who was loved beyond measure. A child whose laughter once filled a kitchen. Whose shoes once waited by a front door. Whose future once felt limitless."

She continued: "Now their faces ask the world questions we can no longer avoid: How many more millions of children will be harmed by products that, while innovative, are still designed without sufficient safeguards? When will children be able to enjoy the extraordinary potential of technology without it compromising their wellbeing?"

Allegations against Meghan's father

According to The Sun, Meghan's half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., alleged that he found a stash of images belonging to their father at his former home in the Philippines.

He reportedly told police in the country that he discovered the child abuse pictures and videos mixed up with innocent family mementoes.

The newspaper said he also contacted FBI investigators in the US in July. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Thomas Sr denied possessing child sex images, calling the accusations "sick lies".

Last week, Meghan said she was made aware of "disturbing allegations" about her father in 2018. She said she was shown a letter sent to Scotland Yard eight years ago making "troubling" allegations against Thomas Markle Sr and she was assured that these were being investigated.

The Metropolitan Police have since said that they have voluntarily referred themselves to the police watchdog because they failed to pass on the correspondence to relevant overseas law enforcement agencies.
