The Duke of Sussex has been living in the UK since the end of August, and it is believed that he is yet to reunite with his estranged brother, the Prince of Wales, after years of tensions between the siblings. The brothers have both penned letters to the winners of this year's Diana Award, but choosing to do so separately seems to highlight their continued feud.
For 2026, the Diana Award put the spotlight on 198 young people, spanning 44 different countries.
On 4 November, they were honoured at the 2026 Diana Award Virtual Ceremony. The official website explains that on the day, both William and Harry delivered congratulatory letters to this year’s recipients, continuing their support for the legacy of their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
"We are incredibly proud to celebrate young people from across the world receiving the Diana Award this year. Their courage, compassion and determination to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges are a powerful reminder that young people are the changemakers of today," said Dr Tessy Ojo CBE, Chief Executive, The Diana Award.
"These young people are proof that, whatever their background or circumstances, the desire to make a difference is universal. They are building on Diana, Princess of Wales’ legacy almost thirty years on."
What is The Diana Award?
The Diana Award was established in 1999 to honour the legacy of Diana, Princess of Wales, who believed that young people can change the world. It celebrates changemakers aged 9 to 25 who demonstrate sustained commitment to humanitarian work, social justice, anti-bullying, and community action. Administered by the only official UK charity bearing her name and supported by brothers Prince William and Prince Harry.
The charity also actively equips and empowers youth across the globe through dedicated school-based anti-bullying initiatives and professional mentorship programs.
Shoulder-by-shoulder for their late mother
In 2021, the pair put on a united front despite ongoing tensions, unveiling a statue of their late mother together.
In a joint tribute, the royal brothers said: "Today, on what would have been our mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better.
"Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.
