What makes Chicago special is its unique combination of big city possibilities and Mid-Western friendliness. Visitors to the buzzing metropolis come back time and again, saying it has an easy-going charm you don't expect from a major urban centre.

Sitting on the edge of majestic Lake Michigan, Chicago offers a dizzying array of things to see and do. It is an extravaganza of entertainment and cultural activity, being home to many of America's most celebrated artistic institutions. The Art Institute and Symphony Orchestra are both world famous, while the Joffrey Ballet company is among the most critically acclaimed troupe in the US.

When it comes to family fun, Navy Pier is bursting with activities and games for everyone. Comprising 50 acres of parks, shops, eateries and public exhibitions, the huge walkway offers visitors and residents alike an unforgettable day out. Also packed with great things to see and do is Millennium Park, a recently developed 24.5-acre space intended to be Chicago's crowning jewel. Its attractions include an outdoor performing arts pavilion, a theatre and an ice-skating rink, as well as landscaped green spaces.

Given its reputation as the birthplace of modern architecture, Chicago believes in taking its visitors to new heights. Indeed the Sears Tower stands at 1,450 feet, making it the tallest building in North America. The Hancock Observatory is another must-see, with its spectacular viewing point towering 1,000ft above the city.

And then there are the shops – thousands of them. The downtown area prides itself on offering the greatest retail treasure-trove in America, making it a shopaholic’s dream. The result is a destination guaranteed to seduce – wherever your interest may lie.Back  Next page »
