Pavarotti and family enjoy Barbados break

One of the advantages of international stardom is being able to escape the winter blues in sunnier climes – which is exactly what Luciano Pavarotti has been doing. The Italian tenor and his wife Nicoletta Mantovani have been frolicking under the Caribbean sun on Barbados with their two year-old daughter Alice.

Despite his hefty girth – he currently tips the scales at 25 stone – the 69-year-old singer was obviously determined to share the beachside fun, taking to the water to give Alice a helping hand with her swimming technique.

The family have been staying in the island's fashionable St James district in a villa called Beach Land. The area is popular with fellow celebs and Hugh Grant and new love Jemima Khan saw in the New Year together at next door's five-bedroom chalet.

Barbados makes a perfect winter sun destination, whether you're in a couple or looking to treat the whole family. Its white, palm-fringed ground coral beaches are just one of its attractions. It also offers great nightlife, dining opportunities and evening entertainment.

Family activities range from a trip in an authentic pirate themed wooden schooner and a trip in a sightseeing submarine, to more grownup adventures such as a tour of a rum-producing plantation or discovering traditional Bajan nightlife.
