With the recent break-up of her six-year marriage to rocker Chris Robinson, Kate Hudson could be forgiven for wanting to get away from it all. Indeed the popular actress is currently a long way from home as filming gets underway for her new flick in Australia. The pretty 27-year-old, has taken her son Ryder along for the trip Down Under where she is shooting scenes in Port Douglas, on the north eastern edge of the continent, alongside Matthew McConaughey. The How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days co-stars are reuniting in adventure comedy Fool's Gold about a husband and wife team who have spent eight years looking for lost treasure.

Kate, who has been romantically linked to You, Me And Dupree actor Owen Wilson, has been getting her bearings in the stunning location, taking time out for a day trip to the nearby Great Barrier Reef aboard a private yacht. Looking relaxed in her outsize shades, the actress chatted on her mobile phone as she returned from the boating expedition.

Back on land Matthew, meanwhile, has been checking out the local cuisine - celebrating his birthday earlier this month at a bar famed for its Aussie "surf and turf" dishes.

Port Douglas is the ideal location to explore the region's beautiful natural wonders and wildlife, with the Great Barrier Reef and world heritage rainforests of the Daintree and Cape Tribulation on the doorstep.

If Kate wants to really unwind during her Aussie stay then a long weekend at Lizard or Bedarra Island should do the trick. The exclusive resorts offer stunning views, spa treatments and luxury dining as well as opportunities to go diving and see some of the world's rarest and most colourful underwater creatures.

Her son, however, might prefer to visit Port Douglas' Rainforest Habitat, a wildlife park situated on eight acres of land inhabitated by over 1,600 animals. Visitors can wander through four unique environments that house over 180 species from the surrounding rainforest, wetlands, woodlands and grasslands.
