Thailand: where Lucy Mecklenburgh and Louis Smith rang in their first anniversary, the Jolie-Pitts got some R&R and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and boyfriend soaked up the winter sun

Thailand was hot, hot, hot this festive season, with a host of stars flying to the exotic Southeast Asian country to celebrate Christmas and New Year with the winter sun, palm trees and breathtaking vistas at their fingertips.

Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and her Hollywood hunk Jason Statham headed to Thailand's mountainous island Phuket for some downtime. The couple, who have been dating for about five years, were spotted showing off their flawless bodies on one of the paradise island's hidden beaches on New Year's Eve.

Meanwhile, jetsetter Lucy Mecklenburgh and her boyfriend Louis Smith marked their first anniversary in style with a glorious break in Thailand, which was the latest destination in their whirlwind travel diary.

The pair, who met last December on the BBC show Tumble, got some rays in Thailand after pit-stops in New York and Dubai. On New Year's Eve Lucy posted a beach snap of the loved-up pair and wrote: "I hope u all have a fantastic night tonight!!! Me & Louis will be celebrating a few hours earlier than all of u in the uk 💛🙊💃🏽🍾🎉 It's our 1 year anniversary at midnight 😊❤️👏🏼 Can't believe I've put up with him for a WHOLE YEAR 😱 .. jokes 😉 love him to bits 😘😘😘 Bring on 2016!!!!!!!!!!!! Xxx #nye."

Naturally, the Jolie-Pitts made the most of being in the region while Angelina is shooting First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia. Having jetted to Vietnam's famous Halong Bay ahead of Christmas, the famous family headed south to Phuket, where they settled into their $18,000-per-night beach resort pad.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie whisked their six children Maddox, 14, Pax, 12, Zahara, 10, Shiloh, nine, and seven-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne to a luxurious 10-bedroom hideaway at the Amanpuri beach resort. The stunning setting boasts pristine reefs, golf courses, Buddhist temples and unbeatable landscapes. "The whole family is staying in a two-floor, mammoth spread that comes with a staff of eight servants, private gym and a pool surrounded by minipagodas," a source told the New York Post's Page Six.

While the family soaked up the sun, sea and sand, Us Weekly reported that they had been spotted "swimming in the sea off a luxury yacht, as well as playing minigolf, shopping at a mall and visiting a local Hindu temple where their mum prayed."
