Al Roker opened up about the frightening way his trip to Europe for his daughter's wedding ended. The Today Show host shared the story of his harrowing travel during the hantavirus outbreak.

"I was coming from Europe this weekend for my daughter's wedding and the CDC was asking people to voluntarily test themselves," Al explained. "But they didn't say for what."

Al, 71, didn't share if he partook in the voluntary testing, but showed concern for the hantavirus outbreak, which has been making headlines across the globe. As of Tuesday, May 12, a total of 11 hantavirus cases have been confirmed.

The Today Show host traveled to Europe with his wife, Deborah Roberts, for their daughter, Leila Roker's wedding. Leila, 26, tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, Sylvain Gricourt. The proud parents discussed the upcoming wedding at the NYC Ballet Gala on Thursday, May 8.

"I'm excited to go dress shopping with her, of course," Deborah told People, adding that she was excited to see her daughter "so happy," Al chimed in: "I agree."

While Al told his Today co-hosts, Dylan Dreyer and Craig Melvin, that he was traveling home from Leila and Sylvain's wedding, at the NYC Ballet Gala, Deborah didn't confirm when the actual ceremony would take place.

"We are working on a date, but it'll be in 2026," Deborah said. "We're still planning. We're getting all the details together, so stay tuned."

Who is Al Roker's daughter?

Al and Deborah welcomed Leila in 1998, three years after they tied the knot. The 26-year-old followed in her parents' footsteps and works as a freelance journalist. She moved to Paris in 2017 to study at the American University of Paris.

Leila graduated in 2021 with her degree in journalism and fine arts, and now works at a PR firm in the French capital after joining Peacock's Tokyo Summer Olympic broadcast team as a production runner in 2021.

Leila and Sylvain met in Paris

In March 2025, Leila announced her engagement to Sylvain, writing to Instagram: "8 years ago, I moved to Paris, 7 years ago I met my person and best friend, and 2 days ago, that person took me on the most amazing surprise trip to Venice to ask me to spend the rest of our lives together."

Al celebrated the couple with his own Instagram post. "Well, it is now official," he wrote, adding: "@gricourt.thegreat has proposed to my little girl, @leilaroker in the romantic city of Venice. We could not be happier, and look forward to planning for these two wonderful young folks coming together."

The Today Show host is a dad to two other children, Courteney Laga – who he adopted with his first wife, Alice Bell – and Nick Roker, who was born in July 2002. Al and Deborah love being parents.

In 2019, the meteorologist said on The Today Show: "We want to make sure everything is just so for our kids," he said.
