Both Elle Fanning and her boyfriend Gus Wenner aren't the only famous ones in their family.
The Margot's Got Money Troubles actress, who is Dakota Fanning's younger sister, has been dating her boyfriend since late 2023; the magazine executive is the son of Jann Wenner, co-founder of seminal music and culture magazine Rolling Stone, of which Gus is now Executive Chairman.
Learn all about their relationship, and Gus himself, below.
Elle and Gus' love story
Though it's unclear just how Elle, 28, and Gus, 35, met or exactly when they started dating, they first sparked romance rumors in November 2023, when they were first seen together, walking hand-in-hand after a dinner in the West Village in New York City.
They made their red carpet debut a few months later, in January 2024 for the Golden Globes, and have made a handful of public appearances together since, including at the 2024 Met Gala, Rolling Stone events, celebrating Elle's premieres, most recently Margot's Got Money Troubles, and they also attended the 2025 US Open with Elle's sister Dakota.
Gushing about Gus to Who What Wear in January 2026, Elle said he is "the best," and, reflecting on not keeping their relationship completely out of the spotlight, shared: "We want to be a part of each other's lives and share these fun times and experiences together. … Why hide? The future looks bright."
Gus' family
Gus is the son of the one and only Jann Wenner, who co-founded Rolling Stone in 1967; through the magazine, he helped popularize writers such as Cameron Crowe (who wrote and directed the Rolling Stone inspired Almost Famous) and Hunter S. Thompson, and discovered famed photographer Annie Leibovitz when she was a 21-year-old student.
Jann shares Gus and two other sons with ex-wife Jane Schindelheim, who he married in 1967. They split in 1995 after a rocky marriage marred with infidelity and drug abuse, after Jann fell in love with fashion designer Matt Nye, with whom he is still in a relationship today, and with whom he has welcomed three other children, via surrogacy.
Gus, who in addition to succeeding his father as head of Rolling Stone also was made head of Wenner Media's digital operations in 2014, gushed about his dad in a 2015 Instagram post: "I remember when I didn't know how smart you were, when I was a kid, and you were just my dad. Now I know you are brilliant. And you are still my dad, first and foremost. But you are also my greatest teacher. I learn from you everyday. From up close. From a far. And I'm so [expletive] lucky to have you."
Gus' career
Gus went to Brown University — he attended at the time as Demi Moore and Bruce Willis' daughter Scout Willis, and the two had a band together — and after graduating, he took on a job at Rolling Stone — "if it even had a title, it was very lowly," he told the university's alumni magazine — where he was in charge of the digital aspects of the magazine's website.
When he was 23, in 2013, he became the head of digital for not only Rolling Stone, but also Wenner Media's Us Weekly and Men's Journal, before they were sold to Penske Media Corporation. He stayed on as president and CEO of Rolling Stone, though he has since transitioned over to Executive Chairman, with Julian Holguin succeeding him in May 2025.
In January 2026, he launched Wenner Media Ventures, an investment firm, and made his initial investment in Public Opinion, the social media company behind popular social media series Track Star, helmed by Jack Coyne.
Elle and Gus' future
As for Elle and Gus' next chapter, she also told Who What Wear: "I definitely do want kids. I've always wanted kids. I've known that since I was little."
The couple splits their time between Los Angeles, where Elle rents a home, and New York City, where Gus lives, and where Elle is constantly perusing houses to potentially restore. "We've been going on Zillow and looking at the Upper West and Upper East Side and the potential there [for a renovation project]," she said. "Isn't that everyone's dream, to restore a house? But it takes years, so yeah, I don't know. That's why I haven't done it yet!"
