Since securing gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Alysa Liu has become synonymous with her edgy style, and has experienced many new and exciting projects outside of sports.
The athlete surprised her fans with her appearance in Laufey's new music video for the song "Madwoman," alongside Hudson Williams, Lola Tung and Megan Skiendiel.
Alysa exclusively spoke with HELLO! about what it was really like behind the scenes with her co-stars, when the cameras weren't rolling.
She revealed: "Oh my God, I mean, there were so many memorable moments. They were all so fun to work with. Everyone was so nice, and we were on set for a long time. It was all day [long]."
Alysa recalled: "We had dinner together at the end, [and] dinner was really fun. It was a smaller one, so not as many people were there. It [was] more intimate."
Looks like the group hit is off because they were already sorting out future hangouts during their first one.
She added: "We got to know each other a little bit, [and] got to see [if] our schedules line up, [and] when can we hang out in the future."
The star gushed: "I really got along with everyone – Lola, Megan, Laufey, Hudson. They're all so funny."
On-set secret
Alysa got along especially well with Megan, who revealed a secret to the athlete that the public would only find out later.
It turns out that Megan donned a similar striped hairstyle like Alysa's iconic one, but with pink and black streaks, for the April 2026 cover of NYLON.
The skater admitted: "Yes, oh my God, I loved it. I knew about it a little bit before everyone else did, so that was really cool to me. I was like, 'oh, I'm in on this little secret.' Her hair is so cool."
Alysa's signature style
Alysa has also been loving that many of her fans have adapted her hairstyle as well, adding: "I love to promote self-expression, and [also] if I'm able to, I guess pave the way, or show that you can do whatever you want with your hair, then that makes me really happy."
The performer has refreshed the skating world with her alternative hairstyle, and smiley piercing (which she did herself), which gracefully hangs on top of her infectious smile.
The star admitted that she doesn't have a label for her signature taste, and simply does what comes to mind.
Alysa explained: "I don't really label it. I have no idea what it is, to be honest, but I really value self-expression. It's like one of my favorite things to do in life. I get to express it both on and off the ice, and they're different, but [it's] amazing."
The star has continued showcasing her immense talent through the current Stars on Ice Tour, alongside fellow ice skaters Ilia Malinin, Madison Chock and Evan Bates and more.
