For NBA superstar, Steph Curry, legacy isn't only measured by championship wins and MVP trophies, it is crafted at home.
The Golden State Warriors baller and his multi-talented entrepreneur wife, Ayesha Curry, have built a beautiful, but busy life, with their four children, Riley, 14, Ryan, 11, Canon, eight and two-year-old Caius, at the heart of it.
While promoting his UNDERRATED Golf Tour, Steph spoke to HELLO! about family life, how he and Ayesha are raising their kids and his hopes for their futures.
Despite growing up in the public eye, Steph and Ayesha have done everything they can to keep their children's lives balanced and grounded. And, while Steph is a relentless competitor on the court, at home, he is simply "dad".
A new generation of Curry's
Steph adores fatherhood and when he and Ayesha initially thought their family was complete, it was he who suggested they have another baby.
With such an active household, the Curry children are already showing signs of inheriting their parents' drive, passion, and sporting skills. However, rather than forcing them onto a specific court or course, Stephen and Ayesha take a refreshing approach to their children's future.
"They are around sports, for sure, but Ayesha and I try to let them find what they love on their own," Steph said. "My parents gave me space to fall in love with basketball, and I want to do the same for my kids. If they choose basketball, golf or anything else, I’ll be their biggest fan, but it has to be their passion."
The UNDERRATED Golf Tour
That same philosophy of nurturing raw passion is exactly what drove Steph to create his purpose-driven platform outside of basketball. The UNDERRATED Golf Tour provides young, talented golfers from underrepresented communities with the opportunities and access needed to excel in the sport.
"It started with the belief that talent is everywhere, but access is not," Steph explained of his initiative. "I've loved the game for a long time, and I saw how many young players had the passion and skill, but not always the same opportunities, resources or exposure."
The initiative has become a massive passion project for the NBA icon, who first fell in love with the sport at a young age because of his dad. "Basketball is my first love, but golf tests you in a totally different way," Steph added. "It teaches patience, focus and how to stay present. I love that every round gives you something new to figure out."
The impact of the tour has been huge in the junior golfing world and Steph couldn't be more proud.
"The reaction has been incredible," he said of the venture. "Our junior golfers have really embraced it, and seeing their confidence grow has been the most rewarding part of this entire experience. The biggest thing [I have learned] is that when young athletes feel seen and supported, it changes everything. Confidence is powerful. A platform, real resources and people who believe in them can open up so much more than just opportunities in the sport of golf."
Going global
With the tournament's massive success in the United States, Steph has proven that his vision knows no borders.
"We are always thinking about how to grow it, but only in ways that feel intentional," he said regarding future expansion. "Bringing the UNDERRATED Golf Tour to Europe showed us that the mission translates beyond the United States. Wherever there are young athletes who need access and opportunity to this amazing sport, we want to be part of helping create that pathway."
The European branch of the tour recently made a spectacular stop in the United Kingdom, playing at the historic Belfry with HELLO! in attendance and the sunshine too!
"Any time you get good weather in the UK, you have to enjoy it," Steph concluded.
