Bella Hadid just proved once again that she's the undisputed queen of pulling off the so-called 'naked dress' trend in style. The supermodel took to Instagram on May 13 to re-shared a video of herself in a risque number from Revolve.
The Orebella founder modeled the brand’s Jada Gown, a sheer design featuring a high neckline and sleeveless silhouette. Crafted from delicate mesh fabric, the floor-length piece was adorned with intricate white pearl embellishments and cut in a figure-hugging silhouette. Bella opted to go braless, layering the dress over a simple black thong.
"After-dark dresssing. All eyes on @bellahadid in the @revolve.losangeles Jada Gown, the perfect blend of sexiness and sophistication," read the caption.
Bella's luscious blonde locks were left down and slicked back into an effortless wet-look while her makeup oozed soft glam, courtesy of a radiant complexion and a glossy lip.
The naked dress trend is identified by significant principles, such as barely-there materials – sheer mesh, metallic knits, chainmail, lace, and airy organza all play a part in its ethereal appeal.
Bella Hadid's best naked dresses
As a fashion writer, I've been tracking Bella's history with naked dressing and this isn't the first time she has embraced a whisper-thin look. For the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, she donned a see-through beige dress from Saint Laurent's autumn/winter 2024 collection. The garment featured a halter neckline with 10-denier hosiery cups and a knotted pantyhose bodice.
This wasn't Bella's first sheer dress to make it onto the Cannes red carpets. In 2021, she stunned in a piece from Daniel Roseberry’s autumn/winter 2021 couture collection for Schiaparelli. The avant-garde dress featured a base of a figure-hugging black gown with padded shoulders. However, the chest area was adorned with a jewellery design crafted from golden brass that mimicked the anatomical look of bronchi. The necklace was placed over the open neckline for a daring, naked touch.
Bella has had naked dressing on her sartorial agenda since 2017. She famously wore a black bejewelled Alexander Wang catsuit to the Met Gala that year. The black jumpsuit featured a low scooped back and an off-the-shoulder neckline. The entire garment was embellished with intricate beaded detailing for a sheer effect.
"It was exciting to do a bodysuit for the Met because I felt that it was something that hasn’t really been explored," the designer told Vogue. Wang created "a more amplified version, done in lace with allover beading and embroidery down to the shoe." "It really shows off Bella’s incredible body," he shared.
