He's Anderson Cooper, and he's signing off from 60 Minutes for the final time.

The journalist, 58, made his final appearance as a correspondent for the CBS news magazine on Sunday, May 17, and got emotional while ending his segment for the final time. You can watch that moment in the video above.

Throughout his final 60 Minutes Overtime section, Anderson opened up about some of the incredible journeys he'd taken around the world with the show, the influential figures he'd spoken with, and the personal highlights that peppered his 20 year tenure which began with the 2006-07 season.

Anderson Cooper is finally stepping into life beyond "60 Minutes"

Anderson's official reasoning for his exit was given as a desire to spend more time with his two sons, Wyatt and Sebastian, both of whom he shares with ex Benjamin Maisani. Although reports suggest he disagreed with the moves being made by Bari Weiss and David Ellison regarding the direction of the network as a whole.

"It's been a hell of a ride," he said during Overtime. "This is my last shoot for 60 Minutes. 60 Minutes has always been a place, at least for me, that you get to step into somebody else's shoes. You get to see things through their eyes and see what their struggles are and what they are facing and you learn from that."

Anderson continued: "I don't think the reality has hit me that I'm not going to be doing this any longer, you know, to give up something you've watched since you were a kid. Yeah, I will miss this."
