Barbra Streisand is in recovery mode.
The Funny Girl actress, 84, has revealed she has been forced to pull out of the Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony, as she is recovering from an injury.
The ceremony is set to take place in France on Saturday, May 24, during which the "Don't Rain on My Parade" singer was set to receive an honorary Palme d'Or award in person.
In a statement on Sunday, Barbra shared: "On the advice of my doctors, as I continue recovering from a knee injury, I am sadly unable to attend the Festival de Cannes this year."
"I am deeply honored to receive the honorary Palme d'Or and had so been looking forward to celebrating the remarkable films of the 79th edition," she maintained.
"I was also very much looking forward to spending time with colleagues whom I so admire — and, of course, returning to France, a place I have always loved," Barbra continued, adding: "While I regret that I can't be there in person, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all of the filmmakers from around the world whose extraordinary talent and creative vision are being celebrated this year. My heartfelt thanks to the Festival, and to everyone who continues to support and champion the art of cinema."
In her statement, Barbra did not share the cause of her injury nor an anticipated timeline for her recovery.
Though she will not attend in person, the festival will nonetheless honor Barbra during its closing ceremony, which will take place at 8:15 p.m. CET, and during which the winner of the prestigious Palme d'Or for best film will be revealed.
"Iris Knobloch, Thierry Frémaux and the entire festival team send Barbra Streisand their warmest wishes for a prompt recovery," the festival said in a press release.
Barbra is the third recipient of a Cannes honorary Palme d'Or this year; Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson also received one, as well as John Travolta, who premiered his directorial debut Propeller One-Way Night Coach at the festival, and was brought to tears as he was surprised with the honor.
Barbra's last public appearance was at the 98th Annual Academy Awards in April, during which she was part of a particularly devastating In Memoriam segment, and performed a tribute to her The Way We Were co-star Robert Redford, who died on September 16, 2025, at age 89.
She said of the beloved The Natural actor before performing the titular song from their 1973 movie: "He was a brilliant, subtle actor. And we had a wonderful time playing off each other because we never quite knew what the other one was going to do in the scene."
