CBS viewers are bidding farewell to both FBI and CIA tonight — but only temporarily.

Both series have season finales on Monday, May 18, with FBI airing its season eight finale on CBS at 8pm EST, followed by CIA's season one finale at 9pm EST.

And though FBI fans have seen their fair share of cancellations for the series' universe, both the mothership series and its latest spin-off are already confirmed to return later this year.

Here is what we know.

FBI season nine

CBS has previously canceled two FBI spin-offs, FBI: Most Wanted, and FBI: International, however FBI's renewal has been confirmed for two years now, with the network ordering three more seasons of the series while it was airing its sixth season in April 2024.

The series, led by Zeeko Zaki and Missy Peregrym, has however dipped in viewership. When it was renewed in 2024, it was averaging more than 12 million viewers per episode on CBS and Paramount+, an increase from the year prior, however this April, it failed to crack the Top 20 network and streaming shows list, which it was part of for the first week of March.

Nonetheless, season nine is expected to premiere in October, though an official premiere date has not been announced.

CIA season two

While shows like Watson, which ended after two seasons, and freshman comedy DMV were recently cancelled by CBS, CIA has made it through to a second season.

Starring Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss, the show's February 23 premiere drew 8.4 million viewers after a week of streaming and other delayed viewing, and previously made the Top 20 for the first week of March.

Like FBI, CIA is expected to return in the fall, though no release yet has been announced either.

Changes to schedule

FBI and CIA are both keeping their usual Monday airdate, however with sitcom The Neighborhood coming to an end after eight seasons, and following the cancellation of DMV, CBS is foregoing comedies on Mondays and moving both FBI and CIA up an hour.

The change kicks off on finale night on May 18, FBI airing at 8pm ET followed by CIA at 9pm ET, and will remain as such when the series come back in the fall.
