Bella Hadid had fashion enthusiasts convinced she would forgo her signature sheer aesthetic when she stepped out at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The supermodel has become synonymous with whisper-thin mesh ever since her bold appearance at the 2024 event, where she wore a see-through beige gown from Saint Laurent's autumn/winter 2024 collection. The daring design featured a halter neckline, 10-denier hosiery cups, and a knotted pantyhose bodice.

However, this year, Bella graced the carpet in a custom Prada satin column gown in a pearlescent gray shade. The dress featured a staples bodice that was embellished with intricate beading. The skirt, which boasted an A-line silhouette, featured a mini train for a touch of drama. Bella layered the look with a matching wrap that draped off her shoulders and was cropped at the waist.

The supermodel's luscious blonde locks were swept up into an elegant updo while her makeup oozed soft glam, courtesy of a shimmery eye and a glossy lip. She accessorized with a white gold Chopard jewelry set and a pair of white pointed-toe heels.

Despite opting for a more modest look earlier in the festival, Bella soon returned to her risqué roots, later stepping out in Cannes in an ensemble that fully embraced the naked-dressing trend.

The Orebella founder wore a sheer, tie-front long sleeve top that featured a frilly collar from Australian vintage reseller, Preluvd. The ivory-hued garment was embellished with silver sequins, with the hem adorned with beaded fringe. The top exposed Bella's nude bra that was layered beneath. Bella styled the blouse with a pair of camel flared trousers that were cropped elegantly at the ankle. She accessorized with a gold pendant necklace, a brown Coach bag, Gucci tortoiseshell sunglasses, and Jimmy Choo heels.

The organisers of the prestigious event issued new rules last year to ban several types of gowns from the red carpet, referencing "decency" and "efficiency" with their decision. Voluminous dresses and garments with long trains have been prohibited as they "hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre". Naked dresses have also been added to the charter for "decency reasons".

"For the Grand Théâtre Lumière gala screenings taking place around 7 and 10pm, which are attended by the artistic teams, evening wear (long dress, tuxedo) is required. Alternatively, you may also wear 'a little black dress,' a cocktail dress, a dark-colored pantsuit, a dressy top with black pants [...] a black or navy-blue suit with bow-tie," reads the Cannes Film Festival dress code.

It continues: "Tote bags, backpacks or large bags are prohibited during gala screenings [...] For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted. The Festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules."
