Malia and Sasha Obama were glowing as they stepped out together in Los Feliz, California, in a rare appearance for the talented pair. The sisters looked laid-back as they strolled together on the summer day, with Malia dressed in a white singlet top and denim skirt paired with black boots and a cross-body bag.
Her 25-year-old sister opted for a flowing checkered top paired with white linen pants, flip-flops and a tan-colored handbag. They were seen walking with friends in the sunshine and grabbing a bite to eat together.
The duo have lived together in Los Angeles for several years, and have largely remained out of the spotlight after spending their childhood on the world stage. Their mother, Michelle Obama, shared on Today that she was incredibly proud of her daughters' close bond, and the fact that they felt comfortable enough to lean on each other.
"The thing that I love the most is that those two girls are each other's best friends," she said.
"There was a period of time when they couldn't stand each other, and I said, 'You wait, you are going to wake up one day, and you're going to look over at that other person, and you're going to know that you two share something very unique,' especially given what they've been through."
She continued: "To see them in that place where they're one another's support systems and they've got each other's backs, it's the thing that a mother would want."
The proud mom of two has imparted her fair share of parental wisdom over the years, and recently shared on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast that her highest priority in the White House was being the best mother to her children.

"With them, it was really just trying to keep them focused on their lives. They could never miss school or something that they had to do for school because something cool was happening right at the White House," she explained.
"They only traveled with us on their breaks – so summers, and there's spring break when they weren't at camp – so the goal was to make their lives as normal as possible." She recalled a turning point in her role as First Lady, where she was forced to change protocol for her kids after they endured a long and tiring journey to Russia.
"They maybe slept for three hours on the plane with jet lag. And I had to go in and wake them up knowing that they hadn't had sleep," she said. "I was like, this is crazy. I told [Barack Obama], 'This is ridiculous.'"
"After that trip, we told our team, 'Don't ever do that. Don't plan a trip that if we land, the kids have to work right away,'" Michelle added. "So from then on it was like, if they haven't had their sleep, they'd get in a separate car and go to the hotel."
Since the family left the White House, Malia and Sasha have opted to live quieter lives away from the spotlight they grew up with. While Malia works as a filmmaker and has collaborated with stars like Donald Glover, Sasha studied sociology at the University of Southern California and graduated in May 2023.
