Penélope Cruz has offered a rare glimpse inside her enduring marriage to Javier Bardem, revealing that after more than three decades of knowing one another and 15 years as husband and wife, she is "still learning" about her partner.
The Invite actress, 52, made the candid confession while promoting her new film during a recent interview, explaining why she believes the movie's exploration of relationships feels so universally relatable.
"I feel like I'm still learning [in my relationship], you know?" Penélope said. "And I am with somebody that I've known for 33 years," she told People.
© Getty ImagesShe continued: "I really know that person, but it's like, is there a day where you really get to know yourself? No. So the same with your partner."
Her comments offer a rare insight into one of Hollywood's most private and enduring romances.
Penélope and Javier, 57, first met in 1992 while filming the Spanish dark comedy Jamón Jamón. Although there was an undeniable connection, the pair have previously admitted that nothing romantic happened at the time.
© WireImageSpeaking to GQ, Javier recalled that while there was "obvious" chemistry between them, they both remained professional throughout filming.
It wasn't until they reunited 16 years later on the set of Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona that their relationship finally blossomed.
"Neither of us would make the first move," Javier explained. "I don't know if we were shy or trying to be too professional. Anyway, it got to the very last day of filming and nothing had happened. So I thought, 'F--k! We better get drunk!'"

The Oscar-winning actor has since reflected on why their relationship has remained so strong, revealing that the foundations were built long before either became global stars.
"We met each other and knew each other before all of the noise, before success and before anybody saw us with different eyes because of who we now were, what we had become," he told Gentleman's Journal in 2024.

The famously private couple married in an intimate ceremony in the Bahamas in July 2010 and have kept family life largely out of the spotlight ever since.
