Kaia Gerber got candid about struggling with her body image, revealing that she previously battled "disordered eating" due to the constant comparisons to her famous mom, supermodel Cindy Crawford.
The 24-year-old spoke with Vogue about how she felt she never measured up to Cindy, and dealt with comments about her body from a young age.
Kaia's health struggles
"We're clearly in one of those cycles right now where people are very, very, very thin," she shared with the publication. "As someone who's been thin most of my life, I've always been compared against my mom – like, What's wrong with Kaia?"
"I would have loved to be born with boobs and a butt," she continued. "People have always commented on my body, which is hard because I'm not always ready to comment on my own body, you know?"
Kaia added: "People are like, 'You look terrible,' and it doesn't exactly make you go, 'Oh, good. Let me get over this mental illness then!' Negativity has never saved someone's life."
Kaia is Cindy's youngest child, whom she shares with her husband, Rande Gerber, and the star has been modeling since she was just 10 years old.
The budding actress recently shared with Yahoo Entertainment that she always wanted to look like Cindy and took it as a compliment when people told her as such. "In all seriousness, it's an honor when people tell me I look like my mom," she explained. "I wish I did. I think even on my best days, I'm not even close."
"I think she's just the most beautiful woman inside and out. And so if there's any way that I remind anyone of her, it's just, like, the largest compliment."
Supporting her brother's journey
Elsewhere in the Vogue interview, Kaia spoke honestly about the impact that her brother Presley's drug addiction had on her growing up as she tried to mitigate the fallout.
"When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone," she said. "I think that's also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing."
Kaia added that she was inspired by her brother's bravery to open up about his substance abuse struggles in a candid social media video in December, in which he implored others to get help for their addiction.
"My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn't share anything – and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, 'I'm gonna be very human for everyone.' There's only so much you can hide from the world," Kaia shared.
"And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you're ashamed of them."
Presley shared in his video that he had struggled with depression and panic attacks, and had decided to get sober and reevaluate the people with whom he spent time.
