Donald Trump has surrounded himself with a fiercely loyal inner circle throughout his second term in the White House, but few aides appear to have become quite as indispensable as Natalie Harp.

The 35-year-old executive assistant has been photographed at the President's side everywhere from the Oval Office to the golf course, while her extraordinary devotion to her boss has now become a major talking point in Washington.

Natalie has reportedly been described as Trump's "human printer" because of her habit of carrying a portable printer to provide him with articles, social media posts and other material throughout the day. She also helps manage his Truth Social presence and has become one of the small group of aides with almost constant access to him.

Her relationship with the 80-year-old President has come under renewed scrutiny following revelations in Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan's book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, which details the extraordinary extent of Natalie's loyalty.

It comes as First Lady Melania Trump has once again retreated from public view. As of August 17, Melania had not been seen publicly for 30 days, with her last appearance reportedly at the FIFA World Cup final. The First Lady has maintained a considerably lower profile during her husband's second term and has made only a fraction of the public appearances traditionally associated with the role.

Who is Natalie Harp?

Natalie was born in California and studied at Point Loma Nazarene University before earning an MBA from Liberty University in 2015. Her journey into Trump's inner circle began with a deeply personal story. Natalie had been treated for a rare form of bone cancer and became an outspoken supporter of Trump's "Right to Try" legislation, which was designed to give seriously ill patients access to experimental treatments that had not yet received full FDA approval.

Appearing on Fox News in 2019, Natalie credited Trump with helping save her life. "I'm not dying from cancer any more, thanks to President Trump. I'm living with cancer," she said.

Natalie later told the 2020 Republican National Convention: "When I failed the chemotherapies that were on the market, no one wanted me in their clinical trials." Addressing Trump directly, she continued: "They didn't give me the right to try experimental treatments, Mr. President. You did."

Medical experts subsequently questioned whether Trump's legislation could actually have been responsible for Natalie receiving her treatment, noting that her own timeline suggested she had begun it before the law was signed.

What has Donald Trump said about Natalie Harp?

Trump was immediately impressed when he first saw Natalie discussing her story on television. Calling into Fox & Friends after her appearance in June 2019, he referred to Natalie as "that young, beautiful woman" and lavished praise on her performance. "I think she's one of the best guests you've ever had," he said. "I think she was just one of your great guests. I thought it was amazing."

Later that month, Trump invited Natalie on stage at the Faith & Freedom Coalition conference. "I heard the story of an incredible, unbelievable young woman who was battling rare bone cancer," he told the audience. "Her name is Natalie Harp and she lit up the television screen like very few people I have ever seen do it."

Natalie subsequently joined Trump's 2020 campaign advisory board, appeared at the Republican National Convention and worked at conservative network One America News before joining Trump's team at Mar-a-Lago in 2022. She is now his executive assistant and a special assistant to the President.

Donald Trump's extraordinary comments about Natalie's loyalty

Their bond appears to have become significantly closer in the years that followed. According to Regime Change, Trump began telling White House staff during the early months of his second term that Natalie was the "only one who loved him as much as his wife and his kids".

He reportedly adopted an affectionate French-style pronunciation of her name, "Nah-ta-lee", and would contrast her loyalty with that of other members of his team. "All of you will go off and make money," Trump reportedly told staffers. "She'll never leave me."

The comments are particularly striking given Natalie's own expressions of devotion to the President. According to Haberman and Swan's book, Natalie allegedly left intensely personal notes for Trump in his private spaces, referring to him in one as her "Guardian and Protector in this Life".

Another line reportedly read: "You are all that matters to me." The book's claims have inevitably sparked speculation about the closeness of the pair, although there is no evidence of a romantic relationship.

The White House has strongly defended Natalie, with spokesman Kush Desai calling her "a beloved White House Official" and saying Trump's ability to inspire loyalty among his staff was a testament to his leadership.

Why is Natalie Harp called Trump's 'human printer'?

Natalie's unusual nickname stems from one of her most important jobs. During Trump's years out of the White House, she reportedly followed him around his golf courses carrying a wireless portable printer in her own golf cart.

Whenever an interesting article, email, poll or social media post appeared, Natalie could print it and physically hand it to him.

The ritual became so established that Trump would reportedly set aside time in his schedule to go through "my papers", much of which had been selected and printed by Natalie.

Her responsibilities eventually extended far beyond printing. Natalie gained access to Trump's Truth Social account and became closely involved in what he posted online. The Washington Post reported during the 2024 election campaign that when Trump wanted something published immediately, Natalie could post it for him, while providing him with large amounts of material gathered from the internet. Trump spokesman Steven Cheung described her more simply as "a valued member of the team".

Natalie Harp's reported encounter with Melania Trump

Perhaps the most intriguing account of Natalie's proximity to the President concerns an alleged encounter with Melania at Mar-a-Lago.

In his 2025 book Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump's Return to Power, journalist Alex Isenstadt reported that Melania was once surprised to encounter Natalie late at night inside Trump's private quarters at his Florida estate.

The area was reportedly normally off-limits to anyone outside the Trump family.

According to the account, Natalie had documents she wanted to give the President and "didn't want to wait until the morning" to deliver them.

The episode was cited as an example of Natalie's determination to remain accessible to her boss and reportedly caused concern among some members of Trump's wider circle about professional boundaries. There is no suggestion of impropriety, and Melania has not publicly commented on the reported encounter.

Melania Trump's month-long disappearance from public view

The renewed fascination with Natalie comes at an interesting moment for the First Lady. Melania was last seen publicly at the FIFA World Cup final and, as of August 17, had been absent from public view for 29 days. Jimmy Fallon even poked fun at the mystery on The Tonight Show, joking about where the famously private First Lady might have gone.

It is not unusual behavior for Melania. She has long taken a more selective approach to her duties than many previous first ladies and has appeared at significantly fewer events during Trump's second administration than during his first.

By mid-August, she had reportedly made 38 public appearances during the second term, around half the number she had made at the equivalent point of Trump's first presidency. Her office has previously indicated that her focus is on achieving results rather than maintaining a constant public presence.

She has also been working on media projects, following the release of her Melania documentary, with a follow-up docuseries expected to explore her career and philanthropic work.

Why Natalie Harp is suddenly popular

Natalie's unusually close role has exploded into the political conversation after Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff singled her out during a rally on August 16 while attacking Trump's priorities.

His comments prompted a furious response from the White House and subsequently led CNN correspondent Kristen Holmes to question Trump about Natalie. Trump dismissed the question and branded the journalist "fake news" and "disrespectful", while the White House Rapid Response account later launched a highly personal attack on Holmes. CNN defended its correspondent, saying she was doing her job by asking a relevant question.

Meanwhile, New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman has described Natalie as something akin to Trump's "binky", suggesting she is part of a tiny group of aides who provide the President with a sense of familiarity and reassurance.

For Natalie herself, however, her loyalty appears to date back to the moment she became convinced Trump had given her a second chance at life. As she told the Republican National Convention in 2020: "Without you, I'd have died waiting."
