Salma Hayek revealed the surprisingly simple secret behind her incredible glow after celebrating her milestone 60th birthday, and it has nothing to do with an expensive beauty treatment.
Speaking exclusively to HELLO! at the Kering Foundation's Caring for Women Dinner in New York on Thursday night, the actress was asked what she believes is the secret to glowing "inside and out."
"Surround yourself with women, good friends, you know, and working together towards meaningful things in life," Salma told HELLO!.
It was a fitting sentiment for the Frida star, who joined her husband, Kering chairman François-Henri Pinault, at the fifth annual benefit, which raises funds for organizations working to end gender-based violence.
Salma dazzles at 60
Salma looked sensational for the occasion in a figure-hugging black floor-length gown with an extraordinary sculptural neckline made up of dramatic folds of fabric.
The actress swept her dark hair into a sleek updo and completed her look with sparkling earrings and an elaborate statement ring. Her appearance came just days after she celebrated her 60th birthday on September 2, a milestone she has embraced wholeheartedly.
Salma marked the occasion by sharing a series of carefree photographs of herself swimming in the ocean, simply captioning them: "60 and grateful."
And while Salma told HELLO! that female friendship and having a sense of purpose are behind her glow, she has previously been refreshingly candid about her approach to getting older.
Salma Hayek's approach to ageing
Rather than attempting to turn back the clock, Salma has spoken about wanting to retain her individuality as she ages.
"I don't want to look overproduced," she told Vogue while sharing her beauty routine last year, explaining that she wants to embrace what "the years have gifted me."
The actress has also described her approach to ageing as "conservative", explaining that maintaining the expressions and character in her face is important to her.
Her beauty routine is surprisingly low-maintenance, too. Salma has previously revealed that she doesn't use fillers and doesn't routinely dye her grey hair, while her grandmother taught her not to wash her face first thing in the morning.
The wellness ritual Salma swears by
There is one practice, however, that Salma consistently credits with helping her feel her best: meditation.
The star has said she meditates "pretty much every day" and has developed her own technique, which involves listening closely to her body and can sometimes last for hours.
She is considerably less devoted to the gym. In a 2025 interview with Marie Claire, Salma joked that she uses her treadmill only a handful of times a year, although she loves dancing and has previously spoken about using posture and small movements to keep her body active.
Her attitude towards her appearance has also evolved with age. Rather than chasing an impossible younger version of herself, Salma has spoken about appreciating the body she has now, even joking that she wishes she had valued her 25-year-old body more when she had it.
